The project
A curved colonnade wraps the water side of the house, and it is the space the rest is arranged around. White columns, a dark polished floor that takes the reflection of the lawn, striped chairs pulled up to the balustrade, and the lake past the palms.
Indoors the ceilings are white and beamed, and the walls are kept close to white with them, so the colour in the rooms comes almost entirely from textiles: indigo and white dhurries under cream seating, block-printed quilts on the beds, a green check on the dining chairs.
The bedrooms are the one departure, washed in a soft green that takes the light off the water. Each has a white cane-backed chair at the window, which is where the house expects you to sit.
